Philosophy
In third grade, we strive to work as a team. We plan almost daily together, as we share a common philosophy and belief about student learning. We work extremely hard to know our students well and to help each student achieve academic, social, and emotional success. We focus on students' personal progress and understand that all students are beginning third grade with different needs. We strive to accommodate all our students' needs by planning lessons that are differentiated. By working together, we are able to share best teaching practices in order to create a work environment that motivates and inspires our students. We try to teach our students to acknowledge and celebrate their hard work and daily successes!
Our classroom management style is based on the Responsive Classroom approach. This approach builds a strong classroom community, creating an environment filled with confident students, willing to take risks among their peers. Additionally, this approach teaches responsibility and self control and holds students accountable for their own behavior.
Additionally, we are passionate about our role and responsibility to help teach our students character. Each month we will focus on a new character trait. We will discuss the word in class and read stories which will help students gain an understanding of its meaning. September's focus is responsibility. It is our hope that you will talk about this word at home and share ideas about the many responsibilities that are accomplished each day. This year the entire Gibbons community will continue working to conduct themselves with character!
